“it feels intimate in the small playing space but doesn’t shy away from asking big questions”

Meet Annie, Bea and Bear. Suddenly Bea is gone. Annie is broken. And there's a bear that won’t go away. sorry did I wake you follows two sisters as they cope with the trials of becoming adults and being alive. This is a story about having a sister and losing her. It explores love, death, and the relationships we take for granted. In this exploration of grief, we use movement and original songs to guide the audience through a sea of memories and imagined realities as the characters stumble through a world turned upside down by sudden and heartbreaking death.

“What is at the centre of this innovative play is movement, both physically but also in its narrative.”

sorry did I wake you asks: What happens to your mind and body when you grieve? Is recovery even possible? And if so, how? With a female-led team scattered across the UK, Germany, the US and Greece, and a rigorously researched understanding of the ways in which grief affects the body, this is a heartfelt exploration of rough-and-tumble love and desolate loneliness; and a call to action to remember what’s important in life. In this incredibly personal play, discover what Annie, and in fact, we all need - to begin healing, by allowing our bodies to move through heartbreak.

“The play may be no picnic, but the bear and the two girls help us to understand the infinite sadness true of loss.”

“sorry did I wake you is not only a timely reflection of the experience of coping with grief, its team also encourages us to find our own inner bears and use them to have the strength to survive.”
